::It was a balmy September evening when we visited, and we would be eating outdoors under canvas. We'd booked (as the restaurant was a train ride away) but that wasn't necessary (there were only three other tables occupied. Which brings me to gripe number one; why, with so many empty tables was the couple who arrived shortly after us sat so close to ours as to be virtually sharing our table?) Having surreptitiously shuffled sideways as far as we could, we sipped pretty local fizz (which we had to ask for twice) while we decided what to eat. In the end we chose the "regional menu" which I believe changes monthly (but do check!) It was preceded by an "amuse bouche"; a slice of salmon mousse with a blob of a sweet dill and mustard sauce. Homemade bread was offered - and that's another one of our gripes; it was delicious but the bread basket completely disappeared after the first offering, which seemed a bit mean; I'd have liked more. The starter was a tiny glass of bright green parsley soup with a creamy foam on top and a skewer of crunchy-coated salmon. Bread for dipping would have been nice. Then came a pork dish (chosen more for its accompanying pfifferlinge if I'm honest!) The meat was perfectly cooked if a touch on the cool side, the vegetables an interesting combination of roasted beets and asparagus and the chanterelles reasonably plentiful (with the jug of spare sauce a welcome touch, especially in view of the bread shortage). Fingers were licked (a lack of bread you see!) Pud was pretty - a tangy berry ice alongside a chocolatey fruity confection. We quaffed a very reasonable (both value and taste!) "viertel" (250ml) of local white wine - and then a second - and then had to cut short our evening in order to run for the train (which after all that effort arrived late!) Service was a seriously OTT - but friendly enough, though with too little focus on the bready kneads (see what I did there?) of the punters.

::Went there for an overnight stay and ate in the restaurant in the evening. Very nice, well-kept room in a country house style. We felt very comfortable. The food in the evening was delicious and excellently cooked and presented. Plus a delicious wine from the region. Highly Recommended. We were certainly not there for the last time.

::A perfect location at only 300 m away from the station. From Gottenheim station, you will esealy reach Breisach, Freiburg or Titisee in the Black Forest. The room at Zur Krone are so romantic, clean, peacefull and for some of them with airco. Only the pillows are not in line with the accommodation: for sure, a weakness point. A "not to miss" is Jőrg, the restaurant waiter which behawes like a butterfly between tables and delivers all kind of precious advices: food, wines and many more with a tremendous sense of humor.

::We had the 3 course regional menu with accompanying wine. Delicious food well presented and a very polite, attentive and entertaining server. Not sure how he served all the tables alone and still made us laugh. If I had to find fault it would be that we were not shown the bottles of wine which was a pity as each wine matched perfectly with the dishes from the starter to dessert. We had to ask each time for details (which was then provided) so that we could purchase the wines(which we did!!) as they were all local from the Kaiserstuhl area. We had a lovely table on the terrace and had a fabulous evening!! Highly recommended. Only a pity we couldn’t stay there as there was a minimum stay of 4 nights where we needed only 2!
