  Did not stay there can only comment on the newly opened restaurant. Great friendly service. Food is very potato orientated. Chips/potato gratin/mash potato. Fillet steak not really cooked well and the gravy very very sweet? The side of vegetables slightly burnt. The wine list very basic no idea where it comes from (didn't show on the menu). No Spätzle in a badischen restaurant? Our table never got cleared we had many many empty glasses. I am sure (hopeful) the management will look into this. Good to have the restaurant open again

  Nice location and friendly staff, but a bit too expensive for the quality of the room you get. It's nothing special. Just the basics. Breakfast is nice with fresh bread. Beautiful setting.

  We really liked the interior design Pfauenzimmer (you shouldn't mind this bird on its balcony including its dirt through) and especially the neighboring room Griffeneck. Some LEDs were non working. The outside area with the beer garden, lake and a little island is also very neat. (Ask for access to the path around the lake) Staff was friendly, portion size if my 18€ fish was rather compact. Home brewed beer (Helles=blonde type) was great.

  Rooms were fine aswell as the breakfast. Slept very bad though, because of the peacocks they have here. The bird kept screaming all night long, keeping me and everyone in my travelling company awake. Afterwards we found out that their nests were on top of the building we were sleeping in. The rooms didn't have airco, which made it even harder to sleep. Stayed here for one night on my way to Italy, I would have arrived fitter if I would have driven on.

  The good: Lovely hotel in great situation at Lahr. Rooms clean and spacious. Food copious and tasty. Beer is obviously their speciality and is like most German beer excellent. Parking easy and hôtel has lovely grounds. Breakfast was a good selection in comfortable surroundings. Hotel is quiet and a good night should be assured. The bad: the reception check in was hard to find as they have several buildings and things were not well indicated. We finally checked in at the restaurant/bar and things were a bit on the slow side as they kept disappearing to serve customers. You must speak German here, luckily I get by. Meal service was slow and they were a bit forgetful, although friendly. Next day it was quick and efficient but the lady serving was different. Wifi did not work as the password given was incorrect. I asked again and got nowhere. I'm very technically minded so the error lay with them. Worst issue was when we came to leave the front door was locked and our bedroom key wouldn't open it. This is of course very dangerous in case of a fire - the door should have a latch on the interior (do the fire brigade check these things in Germany?). Additionally we couldn't pack our car for leaving. We eventually managed to call someone from the bedroom window to escape. We stayed here 2 days and had already pre- booked for another weekend at time of writing. We'll see how it goes next time. Summary, a worthy hotel. Maybe a native German speaker could overcome some of the difficulties we had. The door issue was worrying and annoying. They need to make more checks on their hotel to ensure good service.
