  I got very sick while on vacation in Berlin and this was the closest emergency room the cab driver brought me to. As an American without insurance coverage in Germany, I had to pay €100 upfront in cash for care. I found this to be pretty reasonable. The doctors were very thorough -- they thought I might have appendicitis and performed a sonogram and everything. The wait was pretty long, but not any different than other ERs in the past. All the docs spoke English.

  The worst medical services I've ever got in my life!!! I literally almost lost my leg because of their low-qualified doctors and unorganized medical assistance. I got was there twice, both times brought by the ambulance. First time, I was waiting for 5 hours before getting any help. And they couldn't even measure my temperature correct (put 36,5 instead of 38C). Finally I was released with the status "healthy" and no prescriptions. The second time, I returned with the same in 3 days, and after 3 hour expectation I only heard "Maybe, you were just bit by some mosquito?" thrown by a passing by nurse. I left immediately without waiting further. The next day I received a qulified help in 30 minutes in a private Russian speaking clinic.

  We, I and my partner, went to AVK in 2016 for the birth of our child. Before the birth, the AVK personal was very helpful, according to my partner. During the birth, summary of the events in the kreißsaal. - they were overloaded with births, so we got the last room, in the night around 3 AM. - Around 8 AM we moved to a better room because other pregnancies were done. - The serious pain for my partner started around 4 PM (16.00). - I observed that while the nurses and midwifes, and in general the entire personal, were doing their best, they were overloaded. This is not a fault of the personal, but a fault of the hospital and its management. The nurses/midwifes often forgot requests, said "I'm coming back in 5 minutes" and then appeared after hours. Especially for the request of PDA/epidural , my partner had to wait quite a bit with increasing pain. I would have expected a better management of the requests by the personal, but this has to be organized by the management, not by the personal itself. Furthermore if the personal is overloaded it is obvious that more personal is needed, so another shortcoming of the hospital was that there was a shortage of nurses and midwifes. After the birth we went in the "Familienzimmer", o "family room" to handle the first days of our child. The room was great, quite well furnished and equipped, especially the changing station. The breakfast room was a bit lacking. I mean the food was not so much (if one went late, was not possible to find much food left). Since food is quit important in the first days, that was a bit disappointing. To understand how simple it was, the toaster broke and was not substituted, and even before this was obviously old and used many times. The main shortcoming after the birth, though, was again a problem of organization of the personal. My partner had several doubts and asked many times the nurses/midwifes for information. Those were quite kind but everyone said something different, so my partner could not figure out properly what to do. I would have expected the hospital to train its personal to give clear direction for a new mother, and not confusing her. Of course if the personal is not coordinated and trained, every person in the staff will give his/her personal advice that may be conflictual with advices given by others. Considering cases where the mother is stressed (our baby had a problem after the birth), this is not helpful. So, for the personal I would say 5 stars. For the expected organization of the personal by the hospital itself I would give 1 or 2 stars. The average is 3.
